The Congress of Sout African Trade Unions (COSATU) has called on the Liquor Industry and government to open talks calls find a compromise to resolve the the issue surrounding the ban of alcohol ban. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This comes after South Africa Breweries (SAB) announced their plans to lay off 550 employees, due to the financial strain brought by alcohol ban in the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
COSATU said their are deeply concerned about South African Breweries decision to suspend the contracts of 550 temporary workers. This is going to leave hundreds of families struggling to put food on the table and we call on the company to rethink and reverse this unfortunate decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South African Breweries has canceled 5 billion investment progamme between 2020 and 2021 financial year period which was set to boost the country’s economy, following the government’s decision to ban the sale of alcohol for a third time since the outbreak of coronavirus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Federation has reiterated their position that their principle stance is to save both lives and livelihoods. We are in a deep economic recession with an unemployment rate of 40% and rising. Millions of jobs and wages are at risk and we have close to a million workers whose livelihood depend on the sale of alcohol. These range from farmworkers to distilleries, manufacturers, distributors and retailers, restaurants, and bars. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
