We\nlive in an ever-changing World of Work and with the 4th<\/sup> Industrial\nRevolution creeping up on us which emphasizes the importance of a growth\nmindset for the Employee who wants to master excellence and remain employable.\nA growth mindset is sees gaps in our knowledge or skills as chances for growth.\nA growth mindset is the belief that with effort, training and determination,\nour abilities can be increased. A fixed mindset is the idea that our\nintelligence, character and creativity are innate and unchangeable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n With\na growth mindset, you\u2019re open to improvement and believe you can only get\nbetter and smarter, which are attractive qualities in the workplace. Your\nmindset can affect everything from how you react to feedback to your\nwillingness to take on new projects to even how you manage employees. For\nexample, if you take a fixed mindset toward managing your direct reports,\nyou\u2019re less likely to think they are capable of growth and so are less likely\nto challenge them. If, however, you have a growth mindset, you\u2019re more likely\nto \u201cprovide feedback and create development opportunities for your team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Of\ncourse, few of us always fall entirely into one mindset or another. Still, it\u2019s\nworth figuring out which mindset you favor\u2014and trying to cultivate more of a\ngrowth mindset, where you can. An excellent way to adopt a growth mindset is to\nquestion how you\u2019re reacting to something in the moment. Did you respond\ndefensively to feedback? Did you embrace a chance for growth or stick to your\ncomfort zone? Consider the following: <\/p>\n\n\n\n Skills<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Fixed\nmindset:<\/strong> Skills\nare set and unchangeable. Feedback<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Fixed\nmindset:<\/strong> Feedback\nis a criticism and a sign of failure. Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Fixed\nmindset:<\/strong> Intimidated\nor threatened by other people\u2019s success. Failure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Fixed\nmindset<\/strong>: Failure\nmeans you\u2019re not capable. Challenges<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Fixed\nmindset:<\/strong> Avoids\ndifficult challenges or tasks. Knowledge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Fixed\nmindset:<\/strong> Afraid\nto admit when they don\u2019t know something.
