Three of Africa\u2019s top netball nations will be fighting it out\nat the SPAR Challenge Tri-nations from Thursday, 25 March 2021 \u2013 Wednesday, 31\nMarch 2021 seeking to boost their world rankings and gain crucial international\nexperience to qualify for netball events such as the 2022 Common Wealth Games\nand the 2023 Netball World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SPAR Proteas played the Namibian Debmarine Desert Jewels\nin the opening match on Thursday, 25 March 2021 at 10:00AM and played the\nUgandan She-Cranes at 18:00PM<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SOUTH AFRICA VS NAMIBIA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n With a few of the players unavailable for selection due to\nplaying league netball in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, rising\nstars are given the opportunity to showcase the depth of their talents as the\nSPAR Proteas started the SPAR Challenge Tri-nations with a 58-30 victory over\nNamibia at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Thursday morning. With\na combination of experience and youth, with five new caps head coach Dorette\nBadenhorst expressed that the Proteas played well for a first game and she is\npleased with the performance of the new caps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Namibian coach Julene Meyer expressed frustration at the\nnumber of unforced errors from her team.\n\u201cI think we are still in third gear. After a narrow (11-10) lead by the\nSPAR Proteas at the end of the first quarter, midway into the second quarter\nUganda drew (17-17) and with two minutes to go to Half-time the She-Cranes took\nthe lead for the first time (21-20). Two successive goals by the SPAR Proteas\nended the first half at (22-21). Injuries from Ugandan goal shooter and wing\nattack in the third quarter appeared to have taken the fight out of the team,\nleading to South Africa\u2019s 10 goal lead (37-27). The final quarter ended with\nSouth Africa 15 goals ahead with a 49-34 score line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n SPAR Proteas coach Dorette Badenhorst expected a tough and\nphysical game against Uganda as they\u2019ve played them frequently and knew what to\nexpect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI brought Izette on in the third quarter because I wanted\nher physical strength in defence.
