Tributes pour in for the the ANC and Revonia trialist Andrew Mlangeni, following the sad news on his passing on Wednesday. Mlangeni was admitted to hospital on Tuesday evening after abdominal complains, the African National Congress explained. The veteran died at the age of 95.
Andrew Mlangeni was the last remaining Rivonia Trialist. He spent more than two decades on Robben Island after his conviction at the Rivonia Treason Trial in 1964.
Mlangeni was awarded Isithwalandwe Seaparankwe, the highest honour by the African National Congress for his contribution in the liberation struggle in 1992. He went on to be awarded the Presidential Order for Meritorious Service: Class 1; Gold in 1999.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has sent his condolences to the Mlangeni family. “The passing of Andrew Mekete Mlangeni signifies the end of a generational history and places our future squarely in our hands” said Ramaphosa
