Steve Biko Academic hospital in Pretoria is currently experiencing massive pressure, as a number of suspected covid-19 patients pile up.
Gauteng department of health reported on Sunday, that the high volume of patients at the academic hospital, comes from patients whom are being transferred from other neighboring hospitals within the province and also from other provinces during this current second wave.
Doctors have stated that in addition to the high volume of patients who get admitted to the hospital, an alleged lack of resuscitation equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is also a major challenge, thus contributing significantly to the problem at hand.
As of the 12th January , the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases identified in South Africa is 1 259 748 with 13 105 new cases identified in the last 24 hours. With Gauteng Province recording a total of 341460, which contributes 27,1% to the country’s overall statistics.
