The longest Presidential reign in Africa, as Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni re-elected as President.
Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni a former rebel who was involved in rebellions that toppled Ugandan leaders Idi Amin and Milton Obote before he captured power in the 1980s, has retained power.
The 76 year old Museveni won the much contested Ugandan elections by 58.6 percent margin, beating a revolution led by a youthful Bobi Wine. Yoweri Museveni was declared a winner on the 14th January by the Ugandan Electoral Commission.
The Ugandan, presidential election took place last week, on the back of youthful efforts by a 38 year old former pop star musician to unseat Yoweri Museveni who has led Uganda for 35 years.
The EFF leader Julius Malema has questioned the silence of the African Union (AU) led by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Malema says African leaders have watched and kept quite as people of Uganda have endured torture and intimidation during elections. The EFF leader has called on President Ramaphosa not to congratulate Museveni, citing that an African leader cannot rule for that long and further questioned the fairness of Ugandan elections.
