DBE briefs Parliament on readiness to receive more learners

The Department of Basic Education have outlined plans to proceed with the next phase of receiving learners on the 6 July. DBE was addressing Parliament on Thursday (23/06/2020), on its readiness to receive pre-Grade R, Grade R, Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 6, Grade 10 and Grade 11 learners on the 6th of July 2020.

Minister Motshekga has told the Parliament that her department is working hard to ensure all schools are COVID-19 compliant before they can receive learners. Since the opening of schools for exiting grades 7 and 12 on the 8 June, more than 170 schools have since shutdown due to a growing number on infection among teachers, learners and supporting staff.

The Minister has emphasized that schools that are not yet ready to reopen next month won’t welcome back more learners. Motshekga has called on community members to not visit schools as this would increase infections.
