The North West Education department has opened case following torching of classes in Mahikeng. Three classrooms that were went for the second phasing of Grade 10 and 11 pupils were set alight at Ramaine -A- Phetlhu Secondary School at Magogoe a Koikoi village in Mafikeng on Wednesday evening 01 July 2020.
The school’s principal was alerted by a resident who lives near the school. Two classrooms were badly damaged while one was reported as moderately burnt. The damage includes all the classroom furniture and part of the roof.
The North West Education department has called on the community members to assist the South African Police Services with information to arrest the culprits.
” I am making an appeal to the community of Magogoe -a- Koikoi to please assist us in identifying the culprits to this damage. This is a setback to an already compromised academic year due to the Covid-19 pandemic” Matsemela said
The grade 11 pupils are set to return back to school on the 6 July. The department has committed to provide alternative classrooms as a preparation for the second phasing of pupils on Monday.
